The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At Woburn is the eleventh release in the Dagger Records authorized ‘bootleg’ recording series. Live At Woburn presents a 100% previously unreleased concert recording capturing The Jimi Hendrix Experience in concert at the Woburn Music Festival on July 6, 1968. The Woburn Music Festival was one of Britain’s first large scale, open-air rock music events. Staged by brothers Richard “Rik” and John Gunnell, who were well respected individuals in the burgeoning London music scene where they were heavily involved in many aspects including band managed, show promoters and club owners. Rik in particular, who owned three fashionable 1960’s London nightspots—the Ram Jam Club, Flamingo, and Bag O’ Nails—presented authentic, first generation American icons like John Lee Hooker and Otis Redding and some of the brightest examples of a swelling wave of emerging British talent such as The Rolling Stones, Jack Bruce and Georgie Fame. Live In Paris & Ottawa 1968 presents two fiery live performances that highlight Jimi Hendrix's rapidly evolving music repertoire as the rock trio embarked on a worldwide tour in support of their sophomore release, Axis: Bold As Love. Part one begins with a rousing performance at Paris’ famed L'Olympia Theatre on January 29, 1968, marking The Experience’s third performance at the venue in just over a year. Originally released as part of the 1991 box set Stages, The Experience's L'Olympia Theatre performance makes it's return engagement to CD for the first time in more than 15 years. Like all previous recordings in the Dagger Records library, Live In Paris & Ottawa 1968 is once again highlighted by posthumous studio engineering and mastering by our dynamic technical team of Eddie Kramer and George Marino. The Experience's Paris performance features nine fiery recordings, including two rousing Blues classics "Killing Floor" and "Catfish Blues;" six unforgettable live performances featuring some of Jimi Hendrix's most celebrated self-penned compositions including "Foxey Lady," "Red House," "The Wind Cries Mary," "Fire," "Little Wing" and the ageless "Purple Haze;" plus "Drivin' South," a composition Hendrix first recorded and performed in 1965 while serving as one of R&B/Soul musician, Curtis Knight's young guitarists. This collection is rounded out with the inclusion of three previously unreleased live recordings of The Experience’s performance at the Capitol Theatre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The three, previously unreleased songs represented here include The Beatles' hit single "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" along with two classic Hendrix anthems including "Fire" and "Purple Haze." Burning Desire presents compelling new examples of Jimi's remarkable creative explorations through 1969 and early 1970. Like its predecessors Hear My Music and Morning Symphony Ideas, Burning Desire provides a window into Jimi's growth as a musician and composer. Burning Desire showcases additional examples of Jimi's extended explorations with bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles at the Record Plant throughout 1969 and early 1970. The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At The Oakland Coliseum is a raw, two-track monophonic audience recording of the Experience at the height of their creative powers. Spread over two discs, The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live In Oakland presents the group's April 27, 1969 concert at the Oakland Coliseum. The Experience's spirited Oakland performance was capped off with an eighteen minute, extended jam of "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". Joining the group onstage for this final number was Jefferson Airplane bassist [and Electric Ladyland contributor] Jack Casady. The concert was recorded by Ken Koga using a single microphone onto a portable Sony reel to reel deck. The concert was not professionally recorded, so Ken's amatuer tapes represent the only known documentation of this inspired performance. The monophonic sound is unobtrusive and clear, but far from industry [as well as Jimi's own] standards. Fans of the Experience will recognize the set list, as songs such as "Fire", "Purple Haze", and "Spanish Castle Magic" were staples of the 1969 US tour repertoire, but there are many intriguing elements marbled throughout the eighty-five minute performance. Highlights include Jimi's spontaneous reworking of "Hey Joe", complete with passages about the `soldiers in Vietnam'. Jimi's two blues workouts, "Red House" and "Hear My Train A'Comin" are particularly strong, as is a raucous, extended rendition of "Foxey Lady". The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At The Isle Of Fehmarn marks the eighth release in Dagger Records’ popular bootleg-style recording series. This historically significant album features The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s final live performance on September 6, 1970 during the Love & Peace Festival held on the Isle Of Fehmarn in Germany. Jimi's Isle Of Fehmarn performance has been widely bootlegged over the last 35 years yet it was never professionally recorded. Amateur recordings made from the audience by fans have served as the only known documentation of this historic concert until now. As the eighth entry in this popular 'bootleg' series, Dagger presents a newly discovered recording made by the festival's promoters. Unbeknownst to Hendrix, the promoters captured the group's entire performance by feeding two overhead stage microphones into a consumer grade Revox reel-to-reel tape machine located off to the side of the stage. The resulting document, rough hewn and unmixed, is clear and not unlike the amateur audience recording featured on the initial Dagger offering Live At The Oakland Coliseum. Beyond the memorable concert performances of "Fire", "Red House", "Foxey Lady", "Purple Haze", and "Wild Thing" featured here, Live At Clark University provides a further treat in the form of extended interviews with Jimi, Mitch, and Noel. What makes this collection so unique is the perspective and extraordinary insight gained by listening to the interviews conducted with each band member prior to and immediately following the group's performance. The interviews, conducted backstage in a nearby dressing room, afford a rare opportunity to eavesdrop on Jimi and the group. Jimi's conversation is candid, relaxed, and informative. His philosophy and goals for his music are clear and well stated. The different personalities within the group are also evident, as Mitch and Noel share their insights on the group's accomplishments and musical course. Although Live At Clark University has been drawn from professionally recorded two track masters, it is not without an occasional flaw. Morning Symphony Ideas is an extraordinary collection of previously unreleased studio and home demo recordings. Dagger's two previous releases, Live At The Oakland Coliseum and Live At Clark University presented the original Jimi Hendrix Experience on tour at the peak of their powers. Morning Symphony Ideas places its focus on Jimi's songwriting and his unique approach toward developing new material at home and in the recording studio. Where officially authorized albums such as First Rays Of The New Rising Sun and South Saturn Delta gave light to such promising, yet unfinished studio fare as "Message To The Universe" and "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)", Morning Symphony Ideas probes even further, providing an invaluable insight into Jimi's creative process. These six 1969 and 1970 studio and home demo recordings reveal the earliest stages of Jimi's songwriting technique. "Jungle", "Room Full Of Mirrors", and the extended workout "Keep On Groovin'" showcase Hendrix in full flight with Band Of Gypsys drummer Buddy Miles and on "Strato Strut", with Miles and bassist Billy Cox. These vibrant studio recordings freely intertwine elements from many of the promising songs the guitarist had been rounding into form throughout 1969. Jimi's home demo of "Scorpio Woman" is equally revealing. Recorded in Maui, Hawaii during his extended July/August 1970 retreat on the island, Jimi wove a host of fertile melodies throughout the song's embryonic structure. Throughout this fascinating twenty-one minute workout, Jimi intently established the foundation for a host of exciting new ideas he had in development. Singing live over his own electric guitar accompaniment, Jimi expanded upon the "Scorpio Woman" theme by incorporating tantalizing snatches of other familiar phrases and rhythm patterns advanced by the guitarist in 1969 and 1970. The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live In Cologne , the twelfth release in the Dagger Records official bootleg series, documents this spirited, January 13, 1969 performance at the Sporthalle in Cologne, Germany. Hendrix kicked off the proceedings with a scalding “Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)” from Electric Ladyland. This Earl King chestnut had long been a favorite of Jimi’s and here he began with a driving solo introduction before signaling Redding and Mitchell to join. Next followed a blistering version of “Foxey Lady,” a perennial stage favorite. An abrupt tape cut precedes a memorable rendition of “Red House.” Thankfully the performance is essentially complete lacking only Jimi’s prefacing stage banter, offered as he likely changed guitars before starting. “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)” followed next, not yet established as Jimi’s closing number as it would become later in 1969 and remain so throughout his career, but no less muscular. Jimi then shifted directly into “Fire” and then a thunderous “Spanish Castle Magic.” The Experience were clearly locked in sync, pushing each other throughout all to the delight of their audience. The Experience never backed off, launching next into their first single “Hey Joe.” Jimi had to do some quick tuning on the fly, but he pressed on undaunted, boldly dashing off a lick from the Beatles’ “I Feel Fine” as he barreled through this uptempo rendition. This driving intensity built up after the solo, underscored by Jimi’s rhythm guitar work and Mitchell’s superb drumming before culminating in a rousing finale. “Sunshine Of Your Love” was offered in tribute to Cream, all to the delight of the audience whose howls of approval can be heard even during Redding’s bass solo. “Star Spangled Banner” and “Purple Haze” capped off a truly memorable night and then the Experience were gone, whisked off to the next city and another unsuspecting audience.
