The original CD release is still available through this link.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At Clark University is an official Œbootleg¹ release by Dagger Records, the private issue label established by Experience Hendrix to service Jimi¹s most dedicated fans.

Although Live At Clark University has been drawn from professionally recorded masters, it is not without an occasional technical flaw. Nonetheless, these tapes represent the only known documentation of this spirited performance.

The five live recordings featured on Live At Clark University showcase the optimism and vibrant enthusiasm of the fertile period between Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland. Vigorous renditions of such classic fare as ³Fire² and ³Foxey Lady² clearly reveal the undeniable chemistry and skill of the Experience. The intimate confines of Atwood Hall, Clark University¹s student auditorium, placed the group in close proximity to its fans. The overwhelming combination of sheer volume and Jimi¹s dynamic stage show left the sold out audience thunderstruck.

The Experience had traveled to Clark University as part of their extensive 1968 US tour. Hendrix¹s American booking agency at that time, General Artists Company, had created a daunting itinerary for the group in support of the release of Axis: Bold As Love, their second album. In hindsight, GAC sorely underestimated the group¹s exploding popularity, which had been fueled by the dramatic success of their debut disc Are You Experienced. The agency secured a series of college engagements on campuses such as Arizona State, Brown, Hunter, and Xavier to try and capitalize on the group¹s burgeoning fan base.

Clark University¹s Atwood Hall could hardly be confused with Madison Square Garden or even the Fillmore East. The small, respected Massachusetts university is located in Worcester, a city approximately one hour west of Boston. Two performances by the group were negotiated between GAC and Music Productions, a Boston promotion company, and set for March 15, 1968. Filled to capacity, Atwood Hall could accommodate more than six hundred students. Tickets for the concerts were modestly priced, with seats priced at $3.00, $3.50, and $4.00.

The Experience never returned to either Clark or Worcester. Their popularity would require future concerts to staged in much larger venues. Apart from an appearance in August 1968 at the Carousel Theater in Framingham, Jimi¹s last two Massachusetts performances were held at the Boston Garden, the venerable home to the city¹s professional hockey and basketball teams. Live At Clark University presents the Experience in full flight in a far more intimate setting.
We hope you enjoy the experience!
